The Sultana Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching students of all ages about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay.  The organization has a full-time staff of seven and a seasonal program staff (March – November) of up to 16.   The Sultana Education Foundation prides itself on providing a challenging, fun, and rewarding work environment where employees have an opportunity to grow and develop their professional skills.  Current job listings are posted below and opportunities are always available to volunteer.

 2017 Crew

Cook/Deckhand

The schooner SULTANA is currently seeking a Cook for its 2017 season. Employment for this position begins in March and continues through November. During the 2017 season, SULTANA will travel the full length of the Chesapeake Bay, visiting numerous ports in both Maryland and Virginia. SULTANA will work with over 4,500 students and teachers doing educational day sails as well as 3-8 day live aboard programs. The Cook will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and well-organized galley and for all provisioning. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and prior educational/sailing experience are preferred. Applicants should have strong communication skills and an active interest in education. Crew members often work 5-day weeks, receive competitive compensation and are provided with a private bunk on board the schooner as well as space in SULTANA’s crew apartment in downtown Chestertown, Maryland.
