Volunteer with Sultana

Since Sultana’s founding in 1997, volunteers have been essential to its operations. Below is a short summary of available volunteer opportunities and relevant contact information.

Please Note:  A criminal background check may be required for volunteers working with students.

Schooner SULTANA:  Opportunities exist for volunteers to become involved with sailing, educational program implementation and winter maintenance.  For information contact Captain Kate Dumhart at kdumhart@sultanaeducation.org. 

Holt Education Center:  At the Holt Center, volunteers assist with program implementation for early childhood programs and the care/feeding of the Center’s animal residents.  For information contact Jackie Doerr at jdoerr@sultanaeducation.org.

Sultana Gear Store at the Shared Earth House:   Volunteers assist with the operation and staffing of the Sultana Gear Store in Chestertown.  For information contact Liza Brocker at lbrocker@sultanaeducation.org.

Lawrence Wetlands Preserve:  Volunteers assist with the care, upkeep, and maintenance of the 8.5-acre Lawrence Wetlands Preserve in Chestertown.   For information contact John Mann at jmann@sultanaeducation.org

Paddling Programs:  Volunteers assist with the operation of student and public canoe and kayak programs.   Volunteers must be physically fit and have some degree of experience on the water.  For information contact Brad Hirsh at bhirsh@sultanaeducation.org
