The Sultana Education Foundation’s Community Classroom program brings the community together through lectures, workshops, wellness classes, art seminars, discussions, musical performances, and more—all celebrating the culture and environment of the Chesapeake region. Anyone can organize a Community Classroom program, making it a true community effort. Offered in two seasonal sessions – Spring (February 15 – May 15) and Fall (September 15 – December 15) – programs take place at sites across SEF’s Chestertown Campus.

Community Classroom programs are offered during distinct fall and spring series as follows:
Spring Sessions: February 15 – May 15
Fall Sessions: September 15 – December 15
Spring Series: December 15
Fall Series: July 15
Community Classroom programs take place either at SEF’s Holt Education Center or The Harwood Nature Center at the Lawrence Wetlands Preserve.
Priority is given to programs focusing on the history, environment, and culture of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, but any proposal that has a community benefit is considered.
Nature related arts and wellness programs are encouraged.
No. While we aren’t adverse to challenging subjects, we try to avoid politics.
Community Classroom programs can take a variety of formats, including but not limited to:
Community Classroom programs generally take place weekdays after 3:00pm or on the weekend.
There is no fee for an organization or individual to offer a Community Classroom program so long as the program is free or low cost to the public and does not involve a special cleaning of the facility following the program.
