The Sultana Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching students of all ages about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay. Captain – Schooner Sultana
Starting Winter, 2021/22

The Sultana Education Foundation seeks an additional Captain for its reproduction of the 1768 schooner SULTANA. This is a year-round, full-time position with benefits including 100% employer-paid health insurance and an employer matched 403(b) retirement plan. SULTANA operates on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay from April through October, providing Maryland State Department of Education certified programs for elementary and middle schools and live-aboard summer enrichment programs for students. The Captain will work closely with the Senior Captain on all aspects of Sultana’s programming and maintenance while overseeing the schooner’s six-person crew. A minimum 50 GRT Inland license is required. The ideal candidate will have extensive educational experience as well as strong maritime skills. This position is dynamic and demanding, and could be shaped to fit the needs of an ideal candidate.

Deckhand/Educator – Schooner SULTANA
Seasonal, starting March 2022 

The Sultana Education Foundation is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deckhand/Educator aboard the 1768 replica schooner SULTANA based in Chestertown, Maryland and operating on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Responsibilities include vessel operations, maintenance, and serving as an educator in the Foundation’s Environmental Literacy and Public Sail programs. This is a paid position with housing provided in the Foundation’s shoreside Staff Housing Facility in Chestertown. Partial board is also provided with this position. Previous experience in traditional sailing and education are preferred but not required.
