The organization has a year-round staff of 11 and a seasonal program staff (March – November) of up to 16. Director of Science Programs
The Sultana Education Foundation, based in Chestertown, Maryland, seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of Science Programs. The Director of Science Programs is responsible for developing and overseeing the science component of the Foundation’s programs as well as leading or assisting with science-based programs at the Holt Education Center, outreach programs at area schools, ecology sessions at the Foundation’s Lawrence Wetland Preserve, and paddling programs on local waterways. Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study, and preferably a Master’s Degree and experience teaching biology or environmental science in both a classroom and an outdoor/field setting. Candidates must be comfortable working with a diverse age range of students and program formats, ranging from informal outdoor summer science programs for 5-to-8-year-old children to highly structured professional development programs for science teachers. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with fellow staff.
Deckhand/Educator – Schooner SULTANA
Seasonal, starting June 2021 – Nov 2021
The Sultana Education Foundation is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deckhand/Educator aboard the 1768 replica schooner SULTANA based in Chestertown, Maryland and operating on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Responsibilities include vessel operations, maintenance, and serving as an educator in the Foundation’s Environmental Literacy and Public Sail programs. This is a paid position with housing provided in the Foundation’s shoreside Staff Housing Facility in Chestertown. Partial board is also provided with this position. Previous experience in traditional sailing and education are preferred but not required.
