The Sultana Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching students of all ages about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay. The organization has a year-round staff of 11 and a seasonal program staff (March – November) of up to 16. SEF prides itself on providing a challenging, fun, and rewarding work environment where employees have an opportunity to grow and develop their professional skills. Captain – Schooner SULTANA
The Sultana Education Foundation seeks a Senior Captain for its reproduction of the 1768 schooner SULTANA. This is a year-round, full-time position. SULTANA operates on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay from April through October, providing Maryland State Department of Education certified programs for elementary and middle schools and live-aboard summer enrichment programs for students. The Senior Captain oversees a crew of six, including an Associate Captain, and works in the context of a diverse organization with a staff of up to 20.
Deckhand/Educator – Schooner SULTANA
Seasonal, starting June 2021 – Nov 2021
The Sultana Education Foundation is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deckhand/Educator aboard the 1768 replica schooner SULTANA based in Chestertown, Maryland and operating on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Responsibilities include vessel operations, maintenance, and serving as an educator in the Foundation’s Environmental Literacy and Public Sail programs. This is a paid position with housing provided in the Foundation’s shoreside Staff Housing Facility in Chestertown. Partial board is also provided with this position. Previous experience in traditional sailing and education are preferred but not required.
