Camp Staff, Bay Discovery Camp Faith joins SEF for our Summer Programs as a rising senior at Washington College from Melrose, MA. She is currently pursuing a degree with a major in Environmental Science and minoring in Museum, Community, Field and Education Studies. She is very active in Greek life and community service, and is the current Panhellenic President at the school. Although busy juggling school and work, Faith likes to wind down with Yoga.
Senior Captain, Schooner SULTANA Forrest returns to SEF, serving as a deckhand in 2005; crew on SEF’s reenactment of John Smith’s voyage in 2008; and most recently as Mate in 2012. He has extensive experience on historic vessels including time the sloop CLEARWATER, the SPIRIT OF SOUTH CAROLINA, and BOWDOIN. Deckhand Educator, Schooner SULTANA Julia is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University, and holds a degree in Biology and Environmental Science, a minor in Anthropology, and was a member of Beta Beta Beta Biology Honors Society. Deckhand Educator, Schooner SULTANA Paige is a graduate of Whitman College, and holds a degree in Environmental Humanities and Chemistry. During college, Paige worked as a Camp Division Director, where she designed outdoor programs and activities for children, and led the staff through orientation. Chief Mate, Schooner SULTANA A Salisbury University graduate with a degree in Biology, Kate returns to the schooner SULTANA team where her love of sailing, history, ecology, and education for all ages come together in an outdoor setting. Associate Paddling Trip Leader Courtney is currently a senior at Delaware State University studying kinesiology, and is a local addition to the SEF staff. Forgan was on the very first kayak overnight trip ever offered, and has worked as a staff member in SEF’s Paddling Programs for 4 years. When the weather is right, you can catch Courtney enjoying fishing and water sports on the Sassafras River, or hanging with her friends, family and pets.
Assistant Director of Paddling Programs Todd began at SEF in 2018 as the Education Director on the schooner SULTANA. A graduate of Salisbury University with a degree in Environmental Studies, Todd has worked for many outdoor education organizations including Patuxent Research Refuge, YMCA Camp Orkila, and Path Finder Ranch, and is now the science and math teacher with the Kent School. Todd is a thrill-seeking outdoorsman, who finds comfort in good company and free spaces to appreciate the natural world.
Associate Paddling Trip Leader A former SEF Summer Program Intern and U.S. Marine, Sultana is thrilled to have Eli back as a Trip Leader. Davis is currently pursuing a degree in Ecology and Wildlife Management at Montana State University. Davis’s passion for the Chesapeake Bay outdoors is obvious and his background and experience with the Eagle Scouts, the Marine Corp and Echo Hill Outdoor School make him an excellent addition to the team.
Assistant Paddling Trip Leader A prior camper in SEF’s paddling programs, Hannah is a rising senior at Charles E Smith Jewish Day School, and an active member in the Environmental Club, Track & Field, and the dance team. She enjoys volunteering with various organizations like Global Leadership Adventures, where she planted trees and cleaned beaches, and Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue, caring for animals in need during the pandemic.
Bay Discovery Camp Staff Hailing from Maryland’s Western Shore, Jackie is a prior Chesapeake Conservation Corps intern returning for SEF’s 2021 Summer Programs! Jackie is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Environmental Science.
