Environmental Educator An Annapolis resident, Ryan joins SEF with a Bachelors in Marine Science from the University of S. Carolina. Ryan’s experience in environmental education and conservation with well established and respected organizations including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Annapolis Maritime Museum and Upstream Alliance, will be valuable to Sultana’s current and rapidly expanding programs. In addition, Ryan holds certifications in paddling, swimming and outdoor safety. Outside of work, Ryan enjoys paddling local waters and playing guitar.
Deckhand Educator, Schooner SULTANA Joining SULTANA’s Roster from the West Coast, Elijah holds a Psychology degree from UCLA and has experience in education and rec program supervision. His prior employment ranges from academic tutoring and lifeguarding, to directing theater and teaching self-defence. Most recently, he taught clinical skills at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Mate, Schooner SULTANA A prior paddling staff member, Rudy returns to SEF onboard the Schooner SULTANA as this season’s mate. A graduate of the Pennsylvania University of the Arts, with a major in Directing, Playwriting, and Production, Rudy always brings boundless energy to SEF’s programs. His recent Deckhand experience includes work aboard the Schooner MARGARET TODD, ALLIANCE, and ROSEWAY. Rudy also volunteered on the Schooner ADVENTURE and Barquentine GAZELA, assisting with seasonal operations and maintenance.

Deckhand Educator, Schooner SULTANA Angela is new to the Tall Ship industry, and has a background in the performing arts and education sector. Recently, Angela held employment with Jackson Street School, where they were a Kindergarten Classroom Assistant, and Brookfield Farm, working with a team to harvest crops and assist with property maintenance. SEF is excited to have Angela develop skills in teaching as an educator as well as ship handling as a member of the crew.
Chief Financial Officer Lesher comes to SEF from the American Hospital Association serving as Director of Data Platforms and Management at the Center for Health Innovation. Lesher is a graduate of Swarthmore College and the University of Baltimore, and an active board member for several nonprofits, including Talbot County Public Schools Foundation, Chesapeake Music and Grace Lutheran Church. Assistant Paddling Director Marcus moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore in 2015 from Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. Marcus holds a Bachelors in teaching from Indiana University and a Masters in Environmental Science from Slippery Rock University. He has worked at outdoor centers in the Catskill and Berkshire Mountains, as well as North Carolina and around Kent County, MD. In his spare time, Marcus enjoys training and competing in triathlons, hucking frisbees and exploring various rivers on the Chesapeake Bay.
